Sustainability at Oceanfix
At Oceanfix, sustainability is part of everything we do — from dive operations to community engagement. Our approach is guided by the three pillars of sustainability:
Environmental Protection · Social Responsibility · Economic Resilience

Environmental Protection
- Waste Reduction: Our goal is just one 50-gallon bag of landfill waste per month through smarter operations and recycling.
- Paperless Operations: We have been actively reducing paper where possible and at the same time reducing our digital carbon footprint. Liability waivers and dive forms are fully digital, reducing paper use while keeping records accurate.
- Neoprene Recycling: Wetsuits and dry suits are built to last — but difficult to dispose of responsibly.

Old wetsuits and dry suits are collected free and processed through ReSurf to be repaired, reused, upcycled, or recycled. - Wildlife Protection: We follow guidelines from DFO and Boating BC to ensure safe, respectful marine mammal interactions. We maintain safe distances, reduce speeds in sensitive areas, and never disturb, chase, or feed wildlife. We specifically do not offer diving with the sealions as this is illegal and contradicts our values.
- Invasive Species Awareness: We educate divers about threats like the European Green Crab and encourage reporting to protect local ecosystems.
Social Responsibility
- Community Events: We host 2–3 events per year with guest speakers,
film nights, and educational programs, welcoming both divers and non-divers to learn
and connect. - Local Engagement: Our programs foster a culture of ocean stewardship and inclusivity. Together with other local partners we host the annual underwater pumpking carving contest with proceeds going to the Campbell River Food Bank. We also support the Greenways Land Trust who is a registered charity and conservation organization that works to enhance the community through the creation and management of greenways networks, based on principles of stream and land stewardship.
Economic Resilience
- Zero-Emission Operations: Our 100% electric Ford Lightning

is powered by a 22 kW solar array, Tesla battery storage,
and net metering with BC Hydro. - With a 350 km range, it handles daily transport and long trips with zero tailpipe emissions, reducing our carbon footprint while maintaining operational reliability.
Our Commitment
Oceanfix continues to:
- reduce waste and emissions
- support circular initiatives like neoprene recycling
- operate responsibly around wildlife
- educate divers and the community
Because healthy oceans and thriving communities are essential to everything we do.
